A proposed bill in Maryland would legitimately protect animals by giving courts the ability to place lifetime animal ownership bans on whom they see fit and greatly reduce negligence. One incident, in particular, acted as a catalyst for this bill. A woman was found with 66 neglected dogs in horrible conditions. All 66 dogs had some physical injuries and sadly, three of them had to be euthanized. Animal abusers such as this woman should not be allowed to own animals again.

Senate Bill 672 would amp up penalties for people who neglect or abuse animals and could save countless animals from death and suffering. Currently, the maximum penalty in Maryland is three months behind bars and a $1,000 fine. The bill would increase that to three years in prison and a fine of $5,000.
