Having any piece of property stolen is scary, especially if it’s by force. A carjacking, in particular, is not only traumatizing, but can also make life a lot more difficult. Many people rely on cars for going to work, getting foods, and taking their kids to work. And while getting property stolen obviously feels violating and can make life extremely difficult, it is still just property. You can be compensated for that kind of loss. But what if something, or rather, someone irreplaceable was inside whatever had been stolen from you?

Recently in Chicago, there have been two carjackings in which cats were in the stolen cars. One of the incidents involved a cat named Opal. After 12 weeks, Opal was finally found and reunited with her family. Sadly, the other cat, Luna, is still missing.

A friend of Luna’s family had just picked up Luna, when they were pulled from their car at knifepoint. The men took her car and drove away with Luna still in the back seat. When they finally found the car, Luna was not inside. The animal shelter that Luna was adopted from, PAWS, has been searching for the cat, putting up flyers, and even offered a reward with no questions asked for whoever brings Luna back. Carjackings are driven by desperation and poverty; they are not violent crimes. Luna’s reunion with her family should be based on cooperation and understanding, not punishment. There are a few news outlets reporting on this story, but the more that report on it, the more likely that Luna will return home.

Sign this petition and implore the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun Times to run this story about Luna so that she can be recognized and reunited with her family!
