A husky puppy in China was dragged across the street by a man riding a scooter. The young pup suffered brutal injuries from the ordeal, and was believed to have been dragged across the road for a significant period of time. A picture showed a bloodied stomach and multiple cuts on the poor husky.
The video shows the motorist senselessly driving with the defenseless husky hanging on by a leash. You can clearly see the dog is uncomfortable, although it doesn’t take a graphic video to understand that an animal should never be dragged across the road.
The owner of the puppy publicly apologized following the strong reaction from those who were disturbed by the video. She claimed that she had left her dog with her parents while she was at work, but that she will make sure her dog will not be harmed again in the future. While it is appreciated that a level of responsibility was taken in addressing this upsetting situation, no lawful action will be taken because of the lack of animal protection laws in China.
Even though the law isn’t on the animals’ side, there are efforts in play to change that. Just last month there was a new proposal made that would classify dogs in China as companion animals. This was issued in the hopes to stop the dog meat trade, and would also give dogs protection against abuse and cruelty. The proposal came following the work of several animal activist groups trying to put an end to the dog meat trade, and now it’s time for China to take a step further.

To urge Chinese authorities to never let an act of animal cruelty like this one go unpunished, please sign this petition. This petition would ask China to pass the anti-animal cruelty legislation, giving animals in the country the rights they deserve.
