Petco Love, a nonprofit dedicated to saving pet lives, announced $1 million in assistance to organizations helping pets and pet families affected by the war in Ukraine.

The generous funds will be distributed immediately to organizations aiding shelters, rescues, and pet families fleeing the country. The funds will also Support future recovery efforts and needs as they arise.

Petco Love was first founded in 1999 and works to empower animal welfare organizations and has invested $330 million in adoption and other animal efforts. They partner with over 4,000 animal welfare organizations and have helped find homes for more than 6.5 million pets.

Animals are often forgotten as victims in times like these, and it’s amazing to see these funds going to help the many people who are staying behind in the crossfire to help save these animals. The organizations receiving Support include the Humane Society International and FOUR PAWS, which have been working hard to shelter and rescue animals across Ukraine.

“It is devastating to see families seeking refuge as they leave areas afflicted by war. The entire Petco family is heartbroken by the suffering and touched by the love Ukrainians have for their pets, often carrying them as they flee their homes and country for safety. So as a company, we joined together to engage our teams and guests to help save pets and Support Ukrainian pet parents affected by this war. It is with love that we commit $1 million in Support for immediate relief and long-term recovery,” said Petco Love president, Susanne Kogut.

 

Countries bordering Ukraine, like Poland, also have many shelters and organizations, like the ADA, helping move animals to safety. They, too need supplies, products, and veterinary care for family pets that are entering EU countries.

With these funds, Petco Love seeks to mitigate some of the grief that is on the Ukrainian people at this time.
