It’s horrible to hear about animal abuse cases or read the ways humans are endangering many species. Fortunately, there are things we can do to speak for them. One of the ways we can help and lend our voices to good causes is by signing petitions. Such petitions are sent to people in powerful positions that can make a change, especially when they see just how many people stand behind the cause. We can demand change, justice, and stop tragedies by speaking up and doing our part.

There are horrifying things happening around the world every week like extinction, hunting, exploitation, and cruelty. If you are looking for a way to help animals, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including telling the NFL to ban Michael Vick entirely, making it illegal to keep dogs on chains in cold weather, and saving the last few vaquitas on earth!

We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.

Michael Vick was a cruel dog abuser. He ran an illegal dog fighting ring from 2001 to 2007, and would have likely continued if he wasn’t caught. He shot, electrocuted, and drowned dogs. He forced them to fight each other and pet dogs and took pleasure in seeing them injure or kill each other. He even killed defenseless, innocent dogs by slamming them to the ground until they died, breaking their back or neck. His acts of animal cruelty were horrific. Please sign this petition demanding that NFL not forget what he did and that he be banned from the NFL completely.

2. Justice for Elephant Who Was Chased and Brutally Murdered by an Angry Mob!

Not too long ago, a video emerged online of an elephant being brutally attacked by a mob of people in Kenya. In the video, a crowd can be seen gathered around an elephant. The elephant can be heard howling in agony as the mob hacks at the poor animal. They were repeatedly slashing at the elephant with their axes and machetes as they cheered and clapped. It’s absolutely devastating and heartbreaking. The mob hacks off pieces of the elephants legs until it can’t stand anymore. By the end of the video, one of the elephant’s legs has been completely severed. But they continued to attack the elephant as it wailed and eventually suffered a slow, painful death. Sign this petition urging the Kenya Wildlife Service to find the criminals who made the elephant suffer this way and bring them to justice!

3. Ask States to Make it Illegal to Keep Pets Chained Outside in the Freezing Cold

Source: 48 States Have No Laws Protecting Pets Chained Outside in the Freezing Cold

No dog should be tethered outdoors for extended periods, ever, especially not when it’s freezing cold out! Of the 50 states, only 2 (Texas and Pennsylvania) have weather-specific language in their anti-tethering laws. Another 19 have specifications for how to tether or how long is OK (usually longer than 10-hour stints) and California is the only state to be fully anti-tethering. Of the states that have any laws about how to tether a dog, only a handful say a person could face anything more than a small fine for violating the law. Sign this petition to ask every single state to make sure their animal abuse laws include anti-tethering statutes.

4. Support the Marine Mammal Protection Act to Save the Fewer than 30 Vaquitas Left on Earth

Source: There Are Fewer Than 30 Vaquitas Left on Earth

No one eats vaquita. Fishermen don’t head out to sea hoping to reel one in. Instead, the animals are the innocent victims of a terrible gill net fishing industry that indiscriminately catches the vaquitas as bycatch while fishermen search for other prey. Gillnets are enemy number one for the vaquita. According to studies, they kill up to 50% of the vaquita population each year. If fishermen continue to use these deadly devices, the vaquita could go extinct next year! There are no more than 30 of the species. The Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) bans the importation of commercial fish or fish products that have been caught using a technology that results in an unacceptable number of animals being killed or injured — technology like the Trump administration has refused to implement the ban. Sign this petition to urge Trump to enforce the MMPA!

5. Ban Live Animal Sacrifice in Nepal Once and For All!

Despite outcry from activists and the fact that Nepal’s supreme court directed the government to end the festival in 2016, the mass ritual of sacrificing animals during the Gadhimai Festival continues. At this year’s festival, Animal Equality documented sexual abuse of some of the animals at the temple, animals transported to the temple in unsafe and unhygienic conditions, animals hanging upside down on bicycles, starving animals without enough food or water, and calves dying in the cold temperature waiting to be slaughtered. There was a 70% reduction in the number of land animals killed during the event, but thousands were still slaughtered. Sign this petition telling the Supreme Court of Nepal to fulfill its promise to animals and their advocates, and outlaw these sacrificial killings once and for all!

6. Animals are Suffering on Vessels on Their Way to be Slaughtered in the Middle East

Last month, charges were filed against many South African groups including the Department of Agriculture after the export of 60,000 live sheep. The terrible conditions on the vessel “included dangerously high ammonia levels on some of the enclosed decks, dirty surroundings, including feces in the food and water troughs, together with other serious animal welfare concerns.” According to the National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) of South Africa, one company, Kuwaiti owned importer Al Mawashi, has been shipping animals from South Africa to the Middle East since 1980. Since then, more than 1.5 million of animals have died on their ships. That equals to 38,000 animal deaths per year. The treatment of the animals onboard vessels is “in opposition to South African standards of animal treatment as per the Animals Protection Act No 71 of 1962.” Sign this petition to end these cruel live animal exports from South Africa, especially on vessels with such terrible conditions!

7. Take Collars off Wild Horses and Give Them Federal Protection

Since March 30, 2017, at least 14 Adobe Town wild mares have been trapped, harassed and collared. There is a remote release feature that can free them in an instant. In this video you can see how the wild mare is trapped and harassed as they put the collar on her–as part of an experiment. This sort of cruelty should never happen. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) wants to know their hiding places so they can shoot and kill them if they get permission later. The BLM and the University of Wyoming have forced collars on iconic wild horses from the Adobe Town herd to track their hiding places in the vast high desert. These collars are not only cruel, violate their right to freedom but they could cause death as they have in the past. Sign this petition to demand the quick release of the collars to stop the harassment and cruelty now, and demand federal protection for wild horses!

8. Demand a Full Investigation of Discount Vet Wellness Clinic of Newark OH

In 2017, a dog named Sugar was taken to the Discount Vet Wellness Clinic in Newark, Ohio for an ear infection. The dog was taken in back for antibiotics and was “accidentally” administered a euthanasia drug. The family was instructed to rush Sugar to Med Vet Animal Hospital in Columbus, Ohio where she was thankfully saved. But just two weeks later, they administered a lethal dose of anesthesia to a cat named Jax, who had been brought in for a routine neuter. No more pets and families should suffer because of the clinic’s incompetence. Please sign this petition to ask the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board to demand the closure of Discount Vet Wellness Clinic and suspend their license to operate pending a full and immediate investigation into their practice.

Although Calvin Klein has banned angora wool after an expose by PETA uncovering the cruelty behind its production. But they have not banned animal testing. Sign this petition urging them to ban animal testing; it’s cruel and outdated.

10. Stop The Drugging of Baby Animals for the Tourism Industry!

Source: Stop The Drugging of Baby Animals

Along the Riviera Maya coastline, local handlers are bringing in baby lions, baby lemurs, baby monkeys, and more to have tourists pay them $20.00 USD a piece to take a picture with them. These baby animals are drugged daily so they will stay docile. When these wild animals grow up and aren’t small babies anymore, they get ditched in cages and forgotten about. Sign this petition urging the Mexican government to ban this!
