A mysterious illness that has been infecting dogs in Yorkshire has been linked to taking walks along the beach.
Dog owners all over the Yorkshire area have reported cases of their dogs becoming violently ill after visits to the beach. It took several cases before veterinarians began to put the pieces together.
The mysterious illness is said to cause severe diarrhea and vomiting in most dogs, many having to receive veterinary care as they become dehydrated. Despite multiple cases, vets still have not been able to find the direct source of this illness, as tests and x-rays always come back normal.
Veterinary nurse Brogan Proud said, “I work within several practices up and down the North East coast, and we have recently been inundated with dogs coming off the beaches with vomiting and diarrhea. The cases seem to have risen suddenly in the last two to three weeks, and they don’t seem to be slowing down yet. If your dog is showing symptoms, please let the local authorities be aware as well as seeking veterinary attention should your pet need it.”
Officials and vets are warning people to stay away from the beaches or at least have their dogs on a leash to avoid them eating something on the beach.
