Singer, rapper, and flutist Lizzo is beloved around the world for her catchy songs with messages of self-love. Now, she’s giving the world even more reasons to love her by encouraging people to adopt dogs!

On September 25th, Lizzo and her crew were visited backstage by Wolf Trap Animal Rescue to cuddle and snuggle up with puppies. But Lizzo did something the organization did not expect. She brought the puppies out onstage and encouraged her audience to adopt!

Her love for puppies and dedication to supporting rescue organizations does not end there, though. Lizzo again wanted to spend some time with puppies in need of homes and on October 10th, reached out to Underdog Pet Rescue of Wisconsin for a “puppy party.”

One of her crew members even adopted one of the puppies, who was named Pocahontas (and nicknamed Poke). The rescue organization is happy that Poke will be surrounded by such a dog-loving crew as Lizzo’s.

While spending time with the puppies, Lizzo used the opportunity to encourage people to adopt. She wrote: “If you’ve enjoyed my stories today, and you in Madison, Wisconsin area, these puppies are up for adoption.” The founder of the rescue organization, Lauren Wojtasiak told Huffpost: “She actually has done this in some other cities too. She reaches out to shelters and rescues and coordinates having some adoptable animals come in, and it’s great because it spreads the word to the community about adoptable animals.” It’s lovely to see a celebrity using their status and platform to help animals.

Like Lizzo, we encourage everyone to adopt their next pet. According to the ASPCA, “approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year, ” and “each year, approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized (670,000 dogs and 860,000 cats).” These innocent animals deserve loving homes. Buying isn’t a good alternative because buying contributes to puppy mills where dogs are bred repeatedly and confined to small cages in terrible conditions.
