Rescue group Retrieve A Golden of the Midwest (RAGOM) is working hard to save dogs from China. Homeless dogs in China are in a bad situation, according to Amy Lake, the development manager of RAGOM.

RAGOM is rescuing dogs from China, especially those that are caught in the dog meat trade.  RAGOM is a non-profit group currently working hard despite the COVID-19 crisis. Many dogs depend on international rescuers to be flown out of the city, but with travel on lockdown from coronavirus, it’s been more difficult than usual to get the dogs out.

The Yulin Dog Meat Festival is June 20-21 and China’s rescue shelters are seeing an increase in dogs due to the coronavirus. It means groups like RAGOM are needed more than ever to rescue dogs. RAGOM partnered with other non-profits to charter a plane to get the dogs out of China and the group was able to fly almost 100 dogs out of China, with help from China dog rescue.

RAGOM is currently looking for help raising funds to cover the cost of the flight. The price of the plane is covered and rescue groups need only cover the fuel and other expenses.

The group needs to raise $260,000 by early July. “This is an all or nothing fundraiser, which meach if we don’t reach our $260,000 goal, we won’t be able to charter the plane,” Lake said.
