Animal shelters are really having a rough time during the pandemic. Some were fortunate enough to be cleared after many people stepped up to foster and adopt. But shelters continue rescuing and taking in animals and they’ve had to cancel adoption events, volunteers cannot come in as usual, and social distancing guidelines must be followed.

Celebrities have been doing their part to encourage people to foster and adopt. Queer Eye‘s Antoni Porowski fostered a dog and encouraged others to do the same, and Miley Cyrus and Billie Eilish both adopted puppies and urged others to follow suit.

The latest celebrity to do some good for animals during this difficult time is Game of Thrones star, Maisie Williams. A few years ago, Williams adopted her dog Sonny from the Bristol Animal Rescue Centre, so when she saw their appeal for donations, she knew she just had to help! She donated a very generous £50,000 to her hometown’s animal shelter!

The shelters staff and animals thanked her personally with the adorable video above. Williams says: “Bristol A.R.C. changes the lives of animals everyday and Sonny, my dog who I adopted from them a few years ago, has changed my life in many ways for the better. It’s so important in these difficult times not to forget about charities like Bristol A.R.C. that need our help.”
