ESD2 firefighters rescued the man and his dog with a ladder leading up to the third-floor window. The occupant underwent a health evaluation but luckily did not require medical attention. The fire was controlled by the crews and firetrucks on the scene, the rescue said in a Facebook post.

Travis County ESD No. 2 said there weren’t any casualties, however, the fire damaged 24 units — six of which had direct damage and 12 were lost power.

ESD No. 2 said the cause of the fire is being investigated by the Fire Marshal.

“We are happy to report there were no casualties from the fire that took place at the Churchill Crossing Apartments last night,” Nick Perkins, Fire Chief for ESD. No 2, said in a press release. “With the quick actions of firefighters, help from law enforcement, we successfully evacuated all tenants and their four-legged friends quickly from the building.”

Perkins said the department has created a risk reduction plan, which will make sure that all the smoke and CO2 alarms in the district homes that are over ten years old are still working. Luckily, the man who was rescued was woken up by his fire alarm and ultimately saved his and his dog’s life!
