It’s horrible to hear about animal abuse cases or read the ways humans are endangering many species. Fortunately, there are things we can do to speak for them. One of the ways we can help and lend our voices to good causes is by signing petitions. Such petitions are sent to people in powerful positions that can make a change, especially when they see just how many people stand behind the cause. We can demand change, justice, and stop tragedies by speaking up and doing our part.
There are horrifying things happening around the world every week like extinction, hunting, exploitation, and cruelty. If you are looking for a way to help animals, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including protecting farm animals in Australia, ending painful dehorning on cows, banning trapping on public lands, and more!
We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.
1. Protect Farm Animals in Australia From the Heat

Source: Make shade shelter Mandatory for all Farm Animals in Australia NOW
Each year thousands of outdoor farm animals suffer terribly from heat stress and pain due to having no access to shade or shelter in paddocks throughout Queensland, Australia and all countries the world over. Farm owners should provide adequate shelter for cows, sheep, horses and other livestock. Farm animals urgently need your help. The code red climate crisis has had devastating consequences for millions of farmed animals routinely kept outdoors in paddocks, saleyards, holding pens and feedlots with little to no shade. With summer in Australia and lack of no shade/shelter for farm animals is an animal welfare crisis with more animals expected to die or live in misery in what is one of the hottest countries in the world. Sign this petition demanding a law that would make shade shelter mandatory for all farm animals in Australia!

2. Dolphins Are Dying at an Alarming Rate in the English Channel

Source: Dolphins Are Dying at an Alarming Rate in the English Channel
The conservative party winning the general election means that party leader and Prime Minister Boris Johnson wants to move ahead with his plan for the UK to withdraw from the European Union by January 31st, 2020. This is concerning for many people for many different reasons, but one thing that people may not have considered is how wildlife is affected, and right, now dolphins are already being drastically impacted. The European fishing presence in the English Channel has been at an all-time high, likely because of the expected divorce of UK fishing regulations from EU standards post-Brexit. There is a high volume of fishing vessels, also known as trawlers, in the English Channel. Dolphins get caught in fishing lines and the trawlers’ nets, and they are dying at alarming rates. Sign this petition asking the EU to regulate the trawlers and decrease the number of trawlers in the English channel.

3. Justice for Deer Brutally Tortured on Film by Two Young Hunters

A video recently surfaced online showing absolutely horrific abuse of a deer at the hands of two young hunters. The video is so horribly graphic and disturbing that we won’t be sharing it here, but you can see a short clip of it on Independent. The two young men, wearing hunting gear, on the video are recording themselves laughing as they kick a deer hard in the head. They rip off its antlers and step on its throat as the deer struggles, clearly alive. They keep asking each other if the deer is still alive. Sign this petition asking the Pennsylvania Game Commission and law enforcement in Brookeville to charge the two with animal cruelty and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. Tell them to revoke their hunting licenses for life, as well.

4. Ban Trapping on Public Lands in New Mexico

Source: Cruel and Indiscriminate Traps and Poisons Have No Place on Public Lands
The Wildlife Protection and Public Safety Act (HB 366), which was just introduced by Rep. Matthew McQueen, Rep. Christine Chandler and Rep. Roberto Gonzales, would ban commercial and recreational trapping on public lands, with limited exceptions, finally ridding the landscape of cruel and indiscriminate traps and snares. It would also the use of poison, such as Compound 1080, and M-44s, or cyanide bombs, which have faced increasing opposition over the incredible dangers they pose. Not only do these cruel traps and poisons affect pets, humans, and wildlife, but they’ve specifically injured and killed five endangered Mexican gray wolves since just November of 2018. Sign this petition urging lawmakers in New Mexico to protect wildlife, our companion animals and humans by banning trapping on public lands.

5. Ban Horse Racing and Horse Jumping

Source: Ban Horse Racing and Horse Jumping
Horses are not Entertainers. They are used in competitive sports including, but not limited to, dressage, endurance riding, eventing, reining, show jumping, tent pegging, vaulting, polo, horse racing, driving, and rodeo. Is it sport to put horses lives in danger? They suffer injuries like exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage, knee fractures, ligament and joint sprains, shin soreness, hairline fractures, and more. Then when they can no longer perform, they are sent to slaughter. Sign this petition to demand the end of horse “sports.”

6. End Cruel Tradition Where Bull’s Horns are Set on Fire

Source: They Light Bulls’ Horns on Fire and Set Them Loose
In many towns in eastern Spain, a terrible tradition still persists: the “toros embolados” or “correbous.” These are bulls with flaming torches strapped to their horns that are released in the streets during traditional festivals. Seeing the fire so close to their eyes makes the bulls go mad. They try to escape from the horror they are suffering, but they have nowhere to run, experiencing enormous stress for a long time. Cities like Valencia have already banned the “embolados” bulls since 2016. Now it’s the time for the government of the Autonomous Communities of Valencia and Catalonia to act by banning this inhuman tradition in all the Eastern regions of Spain. Sign this petition asking the Governments of Valencia and Catalonia to ban the “toros embolados” and “correbous” during festivals.

7. Urge Governments to Crack Down on Palm Oil and Save Forests and Orangutans

Source: With Each Bite We Take, We’re Killing the Last Orangutans and Burning the Bornean Rainforest
Palm oil is destroying forests and killing animals. Orangutans, especially, are losing their homes and lives to the production of palm oil. Palm oil is taken from forests that house 10% of the world’s biodiversity and provide carbon sinks for the world. And right now, the forests in Borneo are burning and animals native to that land, like Bornean orangutans are being driven to extinction. Officials said about 80% of the fires in Sumatra and Borneo’s rainforests were started to make room for palm plantations, reportedly destroying 800,000 acres. Sign this petition urging the governments of Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei to crack down on palm oil fires, and save the orangutans before it’s too late!

8. End Cruel and Painful Dehorning on Cows!
Warning: This video contains graphic or violent content.

The video was released on Israeli television and showed cows yelling and crying while having their horns removed. The cows are shown panting, trying to get away and being kicked in the face by workers after receiving either horn removal or castration. The reason for the lack of painkillers for the animals? According to a worker in the video, “Nobody uses pain killer. Too expensive, too much hassle.” Sign this petition calling for the Western Australia to make pain relief mandatory during all dehorning procedures!

9. End Mass Killing of Homeless Animals in Uzbekistan

Source: Demand an End to the Violent Mass Killing and Torture of Homeless Animals in Uzbekistan, Now!
There are barely any animal shelters in Uzbekistan. To control the population of homeless animals, animals were shot or beaten to death in residential areas in front of children. Poisoned food was scattered in many neighborhoods even in front of houses making the animals die in agony. Sometimes, as people say, the Animal Control even entered people’s private homes and killed their pets. As a result local animal haters gave themselves a freedom to “help” the Animal Control and are killing them in even more violent way, for example, deliberately driving their cars over animals, stoning and torturing them to death slowly for fun. Sign this petition urging Uzbekistan to implement laws to humanely control pet homelessness and end the killings!

10. Enforce the Wildlife Act in Victoria

Source: He Killed More Than 400 Protected Eagles, But the State Wont Charge Him with Wildlife Crimes
A farm worker killed hundreds of protected birds in and around Tubbut, Victoria, Australia over a two-year period. Experts say the wedge-tailed eagle population will take more than two years to recover after what he did. Auer caused over 400 birds to suffer and die, and has single-handedly attempted to destroy an entire population of protected birds. Yet the state Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions charged him solely for misusing agricultural chemicals and NOT for the murder of 406 protected birds of prey. His punishment was a simple slap on the wrist, a 17,000 US dollar fine, and NO jail time. That’s just $40 per dead bird. Sign this petition urging Victoria to enforce the Wildlife Act and punish criminals like this accordingly!
