Coco the Chihuahua is resting and recovering after a man in South Jersey found the dog trapped in a zippered duffel bag.

The man was out walking his dog when he noticed a bag on the ground near train tracks in Vineland, New Jersey. He saw the bag begin to move and heard something moving around inside.

According to a Facebook post from the South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter, the man “immediately picked up the bag and brought it to the shelter. Inside was a young female Chihuahua. She and the bags she was in were soaked with urine.

The shelter posted an accompanying video that shows Coco escaping from three plastic bags. Whoever did this put the dog in three bags and then a zipped duffel bag.

“Coco was visibly shaken and lucky to be alive.” the shelter continued.

Coco was checked out by a vet and is now at a foster home. He is not up for adoption at this time. The Vineyard police have been notified and are looking for the person responsible for this heinous animal abuse against poor Coco.
