It’s horrible to hear about animal abuse cases or read the ways humans are endangering many species. Fortunately, there are things we can do to speak for them. One of the ways we can help and lend our voices to good causes is by signing petitions. Such petitions are sent to people in powerful positions that can make a change, especially when they see just how many people stand behind the cause. We can demand change, justice, and stop tragedies by speaking up and doing our part.

There are horrifying things happening around the world every week like extinction, hunting, exploitation, and cruelty. If you are looking for a way to help animals, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including banning logging in koala habitat, ending dog fighting, and stopping cruel festival that abuses bulls.

We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.

1. Protect Australia’s Great Barrier Reef

Great Barrier Reef

Last year, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) approved the dumping of port sludge at sites within the Great Barrier Reef’s protected marine park. Scientists say that the already ailing reefs could choke to death if the sludge is put directly on them. And even if it is dumped further out, the reef could still be poisoned by the heavy metals in the sludge. The Great Barrier Reef is one of the most diverse ecosystems on the planet. It protects coastlines from damage, and provides habitat and shelter for marine life. Sign this petition asking the GBRMPA to revoke the permit and not allow any more dumping near the protected and important great barrier reef!

2. Save Bob, the Horse Exploited for Ice Cream

A horse named Bob is forced to walk the same treadmill every day at a petting zoo in Northern Indiana. His treadmill powers an ice cream maker and a merry-go-round. Horses are smart creatures, and walking on an incline all day everyday must be extremely boring. But it’s also strenuous. He is probably getting repetitive motion injuries because no horse in the wild would move like this all the time. Sign this petition demanding for Bob to be freed from this exploitative life and be sent to live in a safe, comfortable place.

3. Stop Putting Animals in Small Plastic Souvenirs

If you ever see souvenirs being sold of small animals in small plastic bags filled with water, please understand that those are small prisons. Animals do not belong in such small confined places surrounded by their own feces to die. Vendors in China sell keychains like this of small plastic bubbles with trapped fish, turtles, salamanders, and frogs. It’s cruel and unacceptable. The animals can barely move and there’s only enough oxygen for them to survive for a few days. Sign this petition asking Zhong Shan, the Chinese Minister of Commerce to ban the sale of these cruel souvenirs!

4. Ban Trophy Hunting Entirely in the USA!

According to Delaware Action for Animals: “More than 100 million animals are reported killed by hunters in the United States each year. That number does not include the millions of animals for which kill figures are not maintained by state wildlife agencies.” Hunting animals for fun and sport is absolutely horrible. Animals are living beings, individuals with feelings and families, not trophies to be hung on a wall or placed in an office. This sport needs to be permanently banned. Sign this petition demanding legislation to end trophy hunting in the United States for good.

5. Stop Sending Horses to Slaughterhouses

Tens of thousands of horses are shipped to Mexico from the U.S. ever year. At these slaughterhouses, they are abused and brutally slaughtered. 65,915 horses were exported to Mexico in 2018, and 62,832 were shipped the prior year. The horses are paralyzed with knife stabs in their backs, leaving them conscious as their throats are slit. Sign this petition asking for legislation to ban the export of horses from the United States to slaughterhouses in other countries.

6. Ban Logging in Koala Habitats in Australia

Recently, a concerned citizen named Helen Oakley shared a video to Facebook in which she is in clear distress surrounded by emptiness where there were once trees. The blue gum plantation had been completely bulldozed with koalas still in the trees. In the video, she says, “Australia should be ashamed, they’ve bulldozed 140 acres down and just killed all of our koalas.” She found ten dead koalas and dozens more were trapped, injured, and distressed. One was even found with a broken arm. It is time the government does everything they can to protect this iconic Australian animal. Sign the petition and demand that the Victorian government ban koala habitat logging now.

7. Stop Cruel Festival in Mexico that Abuses Bulls

The Fiesta de la Virgen de la Candelaria takes place in Tlacotalpan, Mexico every February. Bulls are forced to drink alcohol and then, similar to the Farra do Boi festival in Brazil, the bulls are set loose on the town where they encounter drunken residents intent on abusing the unsuspecting beasts. Up to 10 bulls are “set free” then they have to run a gauntlet of abuse. Residents kick and slap them, hit them with bottles and pummel them with stones. Those that make it through the barrage of abuse are tied to a boat and dragged across a body of water, only some survive. Sign this petition to demand that this event be banned completely!

8. Ban Dog Fighting in Pakistan

Cruel, bloody dog fight

Dog fighting is always cruel, but the cruel “sport” of dog fighting in Pakistan is especially violent and lethal. As The Daily Mail describes it: “Covered in blood and limping from their injuries, the specially-trained dogs tear into each other as their owners urge them on. The animals are thrown together as spectators goad them into a frenzy, before one eventually emerges the winner.” Sign this petition asking the Pakistani Federal Minister for Law and Justice to ban it!

9. Justice for Puppy Cruelly Killed in Clothes Dryer

An 18-year-old put the family’s puppy in the clothes dryer and killed him because he claims the puppy, Cammie, was being mean to the cat. The way he went about the entire situation indicates that he may need seriously help. There could be serious mental health issues here, but he needs to face consequences as well as get help because abusing animals is the way that abusers and serial killers tend to begin their violent tendencies. Sign this petition asking the judge to give him a sentence fit for the crime but to also order him to receive help.

10. Ban the Importation of Foie Gras into the UK

Source: Ban the Importation of Foie Gras into the UK

Foie gras, French for “fatty liver,” is made from the grotesquely enlarged livers of male ducks and geese. The “delicacy” known as foie gras is one of the most sickening examples of cruelty promoted as “luxury.” Sign this petition demanding that the UK stop importing this cruelty!
