It’s horrible to hear about animal abuse cases or read the ways humans are endangering many species. Fortunately, there are things we can do to speak for them. One of the ways we can help and lend our voices to good causes is by signing petitions. Such petitions are sent to people in powerful positions that can make a change, especially when they see just how many people stand behind the cause. We can demand change, justice, and stop tragedies by speaking up and doing our part.
There are horrifying things happening around the world every week like extinction, hunting, exploitation, and cruelty. If you are looking for a way to help animals, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including asking Home Depot and Johnson & Johnson to do their part to save animals, banning foie gras, and saving the grizzly bears starving due to climate change.
We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.
1. Ask Home Depot to Stop Selling Herbicide That Kills Bees
Bees are in serious danger, which is bad news for everyone given that if bees disappear, so do most of our plants. The herbicide glyphosate blocks enzymes in plants and bacteria. It damages the bacteria in their digestive system which makes them more susceptible to infection. In a study, bees fed this herbicide died at alarming rates. Sign this petition asking Home Depot to help keep this dangerous chemical out of the environment and save bees by no longer selling it!
2. Cancel Cruise That Puts Polar Bears at Risk
Hapag-Lloyd Cruises is one of the cruises on which people are likely to see and come in pretty close proximity to polar bears. They are beautiful animals, but they are also in danger due to climate change. They should be careful and treat the polar bears with respect and maintain their distance. Yet last year, there was an incident and a guard from the cruise shot a polar bear dead. The cruise line should not put their employees, tourists or bears in harm’s way by docking and coming ashore in areas where they are likely to come into close contact with polar bears. Sign the petition asking this cruise line cancel any specific cruises that put polar bears at risk.
3. Ban Foie Gras in New York!
To make foie gras, farm workers force-feed ducks up to 30 lbs of grain and fat down down their gullets a week, far more than a duck would ever consume. Eating so much food causes their livers to painfully grow up to 10 times their normal size. For some birds, their livers become so big they can’t even stand. It’s such a cruel “delicacy” that California has even banned it. Sign this petition asking the state of New York to do the same and ban this cruelty!
4. Ask the UN Environmental Program to Protect Elephants From Being Poached and Skinned for Jewelry
Elephants are often victims of poaching for their ivory tusks, but they’re also often poached for their skin, which is used to make jewelry and “medicines.” The World Wildlife Fund has funded two anti-poaching squads in Myramar and are hoping to get more funded. ore anti-poaching squads will protect elephants from poaching and help them survive. Their populations have been decreasing drastically, especially due to poaching and habitat loss. Sign this petition asking the UN Environmental Program to fund squads and programs to protect elephants!
5. Demand Mandatory Reporter Laws for Vets to Report Animal Abuse
In certain states, there are laws requiring pediatricians to inform authorities if they suspect their patient is a victim of abuse. These are called “mandatory reporter laws.” Similar laws should be made for animals, not just to protect animals, but to protect humans too. The connection between animal abuse and violence to humans is well documented and proven. Reporting animal abusers can help prevent anymore cruelty to the animals, but also prevent violence to humans. If you agree, sign this petition urging the remaining states that don’t have laws like this to pass one.
6. Pass the HEART Act to Help Rescued Fighting Dogs
When dogs are rescued from dogfighting rings, they are housed in shelters for months or years because it’s unclear if they’ll be violent. Some are even euthanized without ever actually being housed. However, the dogs should be retrained and placed in homes fast to help save them from the cruel lifestyle they were forced into. They didn’t choose to be violent, humans did this to them. The HEART Act would accelerate the process of mainstreaming the animals, and hold the previous dogfighting owners financially responsible for their interim care. Sign this petition if you support this bill and want congress to make this bill a law!
7. Protect Elephants From Falling Down Waterfall in This National Park!
On October 5th, a family of elephants died saving their baby who fell down a waterfall. Elephants are social, loyal animals who protect their herd. It was a heartbreaking incident. In total, six elephants died. However, drone cameras discovered that eleven elephants had actually died falling down this waterfall in the Khao Yai National Park in Thailand. It turns out it’s actually quite common for elephants to fall and die in this area of the national park. Sign this petition asking the minister of national resources and environment to create an elephant proof barrier to keep them from the danger of the deadly falls.
8. Justice for Exotic Animals Tossed Into Sea by Traffickers
A video surfaced online showing wildlife traffickers tossing exotic animals into the sea to avoid getting caught participating in the illegal wildlife trade. They already were in illegal possession of pythons, birds, and lizards, and then put them through a prolonged, torturous death. Sign this petition to ask authorities to take this crime very seriously and find the people in the video!
9. Save Canada’s Starving Bears Dying Due to Climate Change
During the fall, bears eat and drink nonstop. They have to put on as much weight as possible because they will go into hibernation mode during winter when the weather is cold and food is scarce. When they emerge in the Spring, they will have shed one-third of their weight. However, grizzly bears on Knight Inlet have not been feeding anywhere near as much as they need to before winter. Due to the climate warning very fast, there have not been enough salmon this year. Sign this petition imploring British Columbia and Canadian officials to create an action plan to save both the bears of Knight Inlet and the salmon they so desperately depend on to survive.
10. Urge Johnson & Johnson To Go Completely Cruelty Free!
Many pharmaceuticals, medical, and consumer products on the market are made by Johnson & Johnson. Their branches include Aveeno skincare, Carefree feminine hygiene products, Listerine oral care, Lubriderm skin and body care, Neutrogena’s makeup, skin, and body care, Rembrandt’s oral care, RoC’s skincare, and Stayfree’s feminine hygiene products. They supply to those that require animal testing on products by law. As a multi-billion dollar company, they have the means to transition to becoming cruelty-free. Sign this petition urging them to go cruelty-free and save the lives of animals!
