An animal shelter in Texas is taking a unique approach to giving dogs a taste of home. Austin Pets Alive! is building tiny homes instead of kennels to give dogs a “home-like environment” to stay in while they wait to be adopted.

“Introducing APA! tiny homes! These cottages will double as comfortable and quiet housing for the most in-need dogs and workspaces for staff and volunteers,” the shelter shared on Facebook, alongside photos of some of the completed homes. Home construction starts soon and the shelter hopes the dogs will be “at home” in October 2020.

The shelter shared some amenities the dogs will receive in their homes, “The idea is to provide more of a home-like environment for the dogs, for decompression, training, and quality-of-life purposes. The cottages will each have their own yard and be outfitted with dog-friendly seating and workspaces, as well as heat and a/c.” Talk about a great living space!

The houses will replace kennels for some happy dogs! “The goal is that the dogs assigned to these cottages will move in permanently until we are able to find a foster or adoptive home for them — no more kennel life for these lucky pups!”

The shelter is asking for donations to help build these houses. You can donate, here!
