America’s fastest dog is a rescue! Phelan beat out 116 other dogs at the 2020 American Kennel Club Fast CAT Invitational in Orlando, Fla. Phelan, a mixed breed dog from Maryland, was declared the winner.

The Fast CAT (Fast Coursing Ability Tests) showcases each dog’s ability to run 100 yards. Each dog gets three tries, each one is timed and measured for top speed. Phelan set a time of 6.346 seconds, hitting 32.3 mph, according to the AKC.

Phelan is a mix of borzoi, greyhound, and Scottish deerhound, according to her owners Krista Shreet and Ted Koch of Crownsville, Md. The couple spoke to National Geographic about Phelan. “We’ll make sure her stocking is full,” Koch told the magazine of Phelan’s big win.
