La Collina dei Conigli has created an whimsical and wonderful way to bring awareness to the plight of laboratory animals. The Italian Rescue (whose name translates to The Hills of the Rabbits) is celebrating its tenth anniversary. Attilia Conti, a volunteer at this rescue, came up with the idea for the photo shoot after realizing that both the rescue and Alice in Wonderland began with a single, white rabbit. With the help of photographer, Rachele Totaro, and rescue volunteers, the set was staged and these former lab animals became models.
Aside from being the most adorable way to celebrate the rescue’s tenth anniversary and mission, several of the photos will be featured in the rescue’s annual calendar, which serves as a fundraiser. These photos also document many of the animals up for adoption through the rescue, and show potential pet parents how beautiful rats, rabbits, and rodents can be. These images also remind us that these animals truly deserve a life better than that spent in a lab, tortured for our gains.
If you currently live in Italy, you can adopt one of these gorgeous stars. Check out La Collina die Conigli’s website. Not in Italy? Not to worry, there are plenty of lab-animal rescue groups here in the U.S. as well.
These tiny animals were rescued from a life of torture as test subjects.
Thanks to this wonderful rescue, they were transported to a magical world.
Now they have plenty of time to live a happy, free life.
They have the chance to live with other members of their species.
And know that there is more to life than needles and poisons.
They can enjoy the finer things in life, like art …
… and tasty snacks!
They will finally get the chance to be treated like the tiny kings and queens they are.
