“Right now, we’re loading our bus with crates for animals that may need evacuation from shelters over on the West Coast,” Laurie Simmons, founder and president of the rescue said. “We’ve also put out a plea for donations for pet supplies, dry and wet dog and cat food, and crates for people that need to relocate to shelters.”

They are organizing buses full of supplies to be sent to the west coast of Florida as long as driving conditions are safe. It has been difficult for them to get in contact with shelters because of the loss of service and electricity. The rescue plans to rescue endangered dogs and bring them back to their 33-acre ranch while giving supplies to both shelters and families with pets in need.

This is not the first time Big Dog Ranch Rescue has helped with rescue missions after hurricanes. The rescue has helped with the aftermath of Hurricane Ida, Dorian, and Maria as well. Big Dog Ranch Rescue is accepting donations online and accepting physical donations if you are in the area. To learn more, visit their website at www.bdrr.org.

Other rescues are helping transfer animals from the Florida coast to safe places. Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League is providing emergency relief to over 50 cats and dogs from a shelter on the Gulf Coast that was dramatically impacted by Hurricane Ian.
