Farrah, an adorable golden retriever, is finally going home after she had been missing for three months. The dog was found through a drone training session.

Farrah first went missing in Cripple Creek, Colorado, on the scene of a car accident. Farrah was in the car with her human’s father when the man had a seizure and crashed the car in a rural area. Farrah, frightened, ran away and disappeared into the wilderness.

Luckily, Farrah’s humans knew that she was alive thanks to neighbors’ surveillance cameras which occasionally caught the dog on the property or people that saw Farrah in person but were not able to capture her. That’s when a dispatcher from the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office came up with a brilliant plan. They knew that the sheriff’s office was planning a training mission with their drones, so they asked for Farrah to be a part of the search.

“Within minutes, deputies spotted her using the drone’s infrared camera. A short time later, Farrah was reunited with her family. She is safely on her way home, and the UAS team was able to practice some very valuable search and rescue techniques with our drone!” the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook.

When Farrah arrived home, she was half her previous weight, but now she is finally home and can recover back with her family.

To reduce the number of suffering dogs on the streets and dogs who are euthanized, it’s important to adopt instead of shop for a dog and never support breeding. Familiarize yourself with tips for adopting so you’re well prepared and read about why breeding dogs is a problem, even if the breeder is “reputable.”
