Jasper was welcomed into the Front Street Shelter after being diagnosed with kidney failure, neurological issues, and lots of unknown medical problems. His issues were beyond what the shelter could help with, and he was at serious risk of euthanasia. Front Street Animal shelter staff couldn’t let this happen to Jasper and decided to give him a second chance at life.

“Myself and other shelter staff and volunteers wanted to give him a chance, so I took him into foster care a month after he arrived at the shelter,” said Haley Waugh, Public Information Coordinator at the animal shelter.

Despite the many health challenges he faced, what caught everyone’s eye was Jasper’s permanent smile! News channels even featured Jasper and his contagious smile in a shelter fundraiser, resulting in news stories and shares all around the world! Thanks to this fundraiser, he received donors and the funding to see a specialist.

It was discovered that he has “many congenital problems including thick bones, nerve issues in his face, high mineral deposits in his bones and kidneys, and a middle ear infection,” said Foster Pets of Sac.

However, all of the veterinarians who have seen Jasper unanimously agree that he is not in any pain. With the right medication and diet, he can continue to enjoy his life at the shelter with his animal and human friends.

“I fell head over heels in love with this boy and we decided to adopt him. I vowed to give him the best life no matter how long or short it is. He’s my soul dog and I can’t imagine a world without him,” said Haley Waugh.
