Grapefruit is a very interesting fruit for cleansing. It increases bile production and helps expel toxins from your liver. I tried to drink the juice of at least half of a large grapefruit every day for a few months straight when I was informed I had NAFLD. Spinach and other dark green vegetables also support liver function so I decided to combine them in a smoothie and drink it often. To make the smoothie thicker, and to enhance the cleansing properties of the smoothie, I added frozen raspberries. I chose raspberries because raspberry keytones supposedly enhance your liver's ability to burn fat.

If you are not on any medications (prescriptions or over the counter) and just want to mildly support your liver this holiday after the onslaught of rich foods and heavy drinking, I highly recommend making this smoothie a few times over the course of a week. The drink also tastes delicious!

Can you please explain why it matters if you are on medications for this smoothie?

I am on at least one medication that prohibits grapefruit consumption.

Grapefruit shouldn't be eaten by those on blood pressure medication. Maybe that's why?

There's a specific enzyme in grapefruit that affects the metabolism of several medications. Therefore, people on certain medications should avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grapefruit%E2%80%93drug_interactions

Your website sucks; the ad that is pasted above your article has such a small button to dismiss it its hard to press on my phone taking me to the ad instead of your article.
