Here at One Green Planet, we love kitchen tools that can serve more than one purpose. Avocado slicer? Too one dimensional. Cast iron skillets that can make brownies, giant cookies, cornbread, cakes, and awesome curries? Oh, yes. Sometimes, you learn that there are new uses for gadgets that you would never have expected. For example, did you know that you can make pickles in your coffeemaker? Oh yes, it’s true!

The video above by POPSUGAR Food, Nicole Iizuka shows us how drip coffeemakers can be used for more than just our morning brew. Of course, first, make sure that your coffeemaker is clean. A good wash with hot water, soap, and vinegar will get the job done. Just gather your spices, put them in the coffee pot, add water, and let it brew. After that, add your vegetables and let sit for two hours. Be sure to store your homemade pickles in an airtight container, like a mason jar, in your refrigerator.
