Although vegan restaurants are on the rise, vegan diners are a dime-a-dozen. Why? Because diner food is traditionally very meat and egg based: think eggs on toast, chicken tenders and greasy burgers. But at Abby’s Diner on Eagle Rock Boulevard in LA, The Vegan Hooligans have arrived to change up that notion.
From Tuesday through Sunday night, the stylish but a little grimy (as classic diners should be) pops up with all its vegan delights. With the Smiths playing in the background, and the space intimate, this diner gives off a truly family-oriented vibe. The menu is just as charming as the atmosphere. They have classic comfort food redone for every plant-based eater. You can enjoy a vegan burrito, ice cream sandwiches, a flaming melt, which has bean curd, cheese, and grilled onions. You can also have scrambled tofu nachos and empanadas with vegan cream cheese. Basically, they have everything we could ever want out of a diner.
On Yelp, people are in love. Darylaine said, “Please do yourself a favor and go try their food!! Order their 421 burrito, which is not on the menu, but tastes amazing, it’s basically Californialifornia burrito consisted of beans, cheese, tater tots, and soy-based meat!! THAT IS A MUST!” And Alejandra said, “One of the most unique dining experiences here. First off I was brought here as a surprise date and later found out it’s a pop up that is open from 6-10 on the weekends at Abbey’s Diner. Whaaaa, mind blown!!”
According to a forecast report by restaurant consultancy group Baum + Whiteman in New York, “plant-based” will be the food trend of 2018. The report also anticipates that plant-based foods will become the new organic. So, let’s hope there are even more cafes, shops, brands, and vendors to come, especially if they have vegan food THIS good.
They’re located at 4862 Eagle Rock Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90041.
