Recipe: Strawberry Kale Smoothie

This healthy, flavourful smoothie takes advantage of two wonderful seasonal ingredients in the Pacific Northwest- kale, and strawberries. This is truly the time of year to eat local strawberries. Buy them at your local farmer’s market or pick them yourself at a U-Pick farm. You won’t find juicier, sweeter berries than in the next few weeks! I’ve paired the strawberries in this smoothie with kale for a boost of nutrients, and a bit of earthy flavour. I used curly kale, but any kind will do. What a fantastic way to start the day!

Strawberry Kale Smoothie

  • 1 cup strawberries
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 cup kale, packed, stems removed
  • 1 cup cubed ice
  • 1 scoop neutral flavoured protein powder (I use Boku Super Protein)
  • 1 tsp maca powder
  • 1 cup almond milk

Blend all ingredients thoroughly in a blender.

Neutral whey protein powder? Meaning no added flavorings of some sort? I think we can get the raw nutrients from whey when doing that, right?
