Blogger Tips: How To Make Meatless Monday a Success


Meatless Monday has become quite the phenomenon in households everywhere. In an effort to reduce their meat consumption, people around the world practice ‘Meatless Monday,’ switching our their meaty entrees for delicious plant-based options.

We here at One Green Planet love to hear that, and we encourage everyone to participate and learn more about plant-based meals, one bite at a time! However, it can be hard to pinpoint what you want for dinner, especially when you’re switching it up from your normal team.

1. Make The Main Dish Meaty!

You know what screams family dinner? Meatloaf. This hearty Maple-Glazed Mushroom and Lentil Loaf dinner entrée will remind you of that Sunday evening meatloaf so many of us grew up with.

Liz Martone makes this loaf out of mushrooms and lentils, with a delicious maple ketchup glaze that sinks in as it bakes. This loaf is tender, moist, and full of these beautiful savory flavors that paired so perfectly with the sweet bite of the ketchup glaze.

2. Think OUTSIDE the Box

Cheeseburgers and mac and cheese are two of the most common comfort foods.  On their own, they’re delicious. And together? Well, try out this Cheeseburger Mac and Cheese recipe by Gin Butters and you’ll find out! It includes macaroni pasta smothered in rich, creamy, and yes, life-changing, cheese sauce. This dish is also what’s typically found in a box in the supermarket, but now you can make a healthier alternative at home.  Not to mention, a hefty portion of ground beef-style crumbles. Indulge away!

3. Fire Up The Grill!

For those warmer months when you want to eat outside, light up the grill and check out these Black Bean Burgers. A good veggie burger is only as good as its ingredients. Black bean burgers would be terribly bland if you just smashed up some beans and made it into a patty. It needs to be treated like any entree. The varieties of flavors you can add are endless.

Dora Daily tends to go for a spicier burger with lots of onion, bell pepper, and a good amount of seasoning while this super simple cilantro lime sauce is a great topper for a spicy burger. It is cool and tangy.

4. Even the Kids Will Be Into It

You know what kids love to do? Dip their food in various sauce. These Crispy Tofu Nuggets are a vegan twist on a traditional favorite and beat the fast food variety any day.

Attila Hildmann keeps it simple by using cornflakes to make it crunchy and delicious. If you don’t want to deep fry them, you can also fry them in a skillet until golden brown. The curry ketchup is a unique dipping sauce that packs a punch and perfectly complements the dish. It also goes great with your morning tofu scramble eggs!

5. Don’t Forget Dessert!

This delicious Double Chocolate Banana Bread by Silvia Ribas is flourless, gluten-free, and entirely made in a blender! Finish off your amazing Meatless Monday meal with a flourish. Oats, maple syrup, and banana are the main components of this bread. Feed your hunger and make all your chocolate cravings go away!
