This Cat-Themed Bakery in Brooklyn Serves Awesome Vegan Cronuts

Any café concept that combines our love of cats with freshly baked vegan goods automatically gets our resounding seal of approval, which is why we have a not-so-secret love for Brooklyn Whiskers, a vegan retail and wholesale bakery located in Bushwick, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York.

Brooklyn Whiskers operates out of a bright yellow and welcoming storefront and serves up plant-based goods such as vegan “cheese” twists, doughnuts, brownies, vegan Bis’cats and gravy (get it?), smoky maple tofu sandwiches, and, most resplendently of all — vegan doughssants (their term for doughnut-croissant hybrids).

The doughssants are served on weekends only and will cost you $7 for just one pastry, but they’re absolutely divine. Seriously — take a peak.

Can we please eat vegan doughssants every day?

Past special flavors have included cinnamon apple, raspberry, coconut (pictured above), strawberry matcha, and more.

Here’s an almond, chocolate, and blueberry one. Yum!

Even if you aren’t interested in doughssants, there’s plenty on offer at Brooklyn Whiskers. Let’s take an imaginary visit together.

First, you enter through the bright yellow door…

If you’re lucky, you’re greeted by a cat first.

Vegan cat-lattés and cat-shaped pastries are available to order…

And these strawberry ganache cupcakes are the cat’s meow…

Chocolate chip cookie sandwiches are a classic delight…

And nothing beats vegan foam-whisker decor…

Except maybe these plant-based miniature galettes…

And this guy!

If you want to visit Brooklyn Whiskers, stop on by their Bushwick location at 760 Bushwick Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11221, or their Greenpoint location at  1008 Manhattan Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11222.

Make Your Own Vegan Doughnut-Croissant

Brooklyn Whiskers calls it a doughssant; Dominique Ansel calls it a cronut. Either way, doughnut-croissant hybrids are delicious — especially when they’re vegan! If you’re jonesing to make your own, this recipe for a plant-based Orange Walnut Cronut by Shea Cope won’t let you down.

Behold the glory of the Orange Walnut Cronut!

This indulgent dessert made its rounds as a popular street food and now, you can make it in your own home. These light and fluffy cronuts are flavored with fresh orange juice and zest, giving them a bright and citrusy flavor. A sprinkling of chopped walnuts and a drizzle of chocolate sauce adds a finishing touch and makes these cronuts as photo-worthy as they are tasty.

We also highly recommend downloading our Food Monster App, which is available for both Android and iPhone, and can also be found on Instagram and Facebook. The app has more than 8,000 plant-based, allergy-friendly recipes, and subscribers gain access to ten new recipes per day. Check it out!
