Bailey’s is set to release its vegan, gluten-free almond milk alternative to its traditional cream liqueur in the U.K.
The standard Bailey’s recipe combines Irish cream with whiskey to create a dairy-based liqueur. In the dairy-free product, Bailey’s Almande, the cream has been replaced with almond milk.
The Almande liqueur also contains significantly fewer calories than the dairy Bailey’s, with 67 calories per serving to the dairy version’s 130 calories per serving. Bailey’s Almande has 13 percent alcohol by volume, 4 percent lower than the dairy version.
“Our alcoholic almond drink blends sweet almond oil and almond essence (from crushed almonds), cane sugar and purified water with a touch of real vanilla,” says Bailey’s on its website.
“Baileys Almande is dairy-free and vegan-friendly, but very much not free from naughty, delicious indulgence,” the company adds. “Best enjoyed over ice.”
The Almande liqueur previously launched in the U.S. in September, where it was exclusive to Whole Foods before rolling out nationwide.
The bottle will be available in U.K. supermarkets including Asda from March 1 for £16 in a special price, before going to a standard price of £20.
