About Simply Bar: The Simply Bar is a small Canadian company that was founded in 2002. The founder, Cathy Richards, set out to create a bar that was both filling and easy to digest; high in protein and low in fat; low glycemic with a handful of natural ingredients. The result?

Each bar has 16 grams of protein, 2-4 grams of fat, under 3 grams of sugar, at least 4 grams of fiber, and 160 calories or less. They are also considered a good source of iron. The Simply Bar is a natural protein bar with more fiber than sugar!

The bars are sweetened with organic brown rice syrup, rate low on the glycemic index, and contain no refined sugars. Each flavor contains 10 ingredients or less – and they are all things you can pronounce! All bars are certified vegan, gluten-free, and kosher.

The One Green Planet Verdict: In terms of ingredients and nutrition it’s hard to beat these bars. A natural protein bar with more fiber than sugar? Pretty amazing! And packing 16 grams of protein into a 150 calorie bar is also quite a feat. But the real question…how do they taste?

Well, we loved them! Overall, the texture is pleasantly crunchy, like a less sticky version of a crispy rice bar. The Cinnamon Pecan and Lemon Coconut flavors were definitely our favorites. But all the flavors were true to their names, and they all tasted very natural.

With a clean list of ingredients, a significant dose of protein, and low sugar content, these bars were in fact quite satisfying as well as easy to digest. They proved to be a great option before or after a workout, as an on-the-go snack, or with some fruit or a smoothie for breakfast. Highly recommended!

Light and full of protein

May 24, 2012 by Laurie

I really like these, especially because they are light enough to not weigh you down before a workout, loaded with protein, and taste great, too! They do soften considerably in the heat, which makes them not as tasty texture-wise, but the flavor is still there.

Workout Replenishing Bar

May 19, 2012 by Ray

Simply Bar = Simply Protein! This bar is fabulous for delivering lots of protein to build muscles and sustain my energy! I've never heard of these bars but definitely will be getting some more as they are a great snack treat after my workout routine and don't ruin my diet!

Quite Simply, Lovely

May 16, 2012 by Kaleigh Wyrick

The simply bar is a lovely addition to the options available for vegan AND gluten free bar snacks. The crispy texture provides a nice chewy experience, and the sweetness is so light that it doesn't have that sickly-sweet that other bars have. The level of sweet combined with the flavors of each bar combine quite nicely to give the sensation of infusing your entire mouth with its essence.

Cinnamon was my favorite, just because I am a die-hard lover of cinnamon, but the others were tasty as well, and satisfying, both in the eating experience and in the satiety that followed. I liked how you bite into the puffy yet thick bar, and as you chew the crispy texture melts on your tongue. It isn't the texture you go for if you are looking for the chewy "raw" texture of fruit and nut bars, so just keep that in mind.

The only reason I don't give them 5/5 stars is because the ingredients include "soy protein isolate" and "natural flavors," which, don't sound completely "all natural" to someone looking for whole, unprocessed foods, but for what the product is -- a simple, filling, and tasty vegan snack that includes organic ingredients -- it is an excellent choice.

I look for a bar with a lot of flavor and a lot of nutrients. I also want to know what all the ingredients are.

  2. avatar Lisa Ragsdale says:

I look for energy bars that are filling and fulfilling. While eating one I want to enjoy the experience flavorfully and texturally. I do not want to be hungry afterwards and would like a bar with no unpleasant aftertaste.

  3. avatar Ray says:

I look for the fewest amount of ingredients as possible and I had better be able to both pronounce and understand what each ingredient food is. My energy bars must be made of REAL FOOD full of protein and fiber and low in sugar. Nothing artificial for my body as that’s just junk. Hey, if bugs won’t eat it – I shouldn’t be eating it either! LOL :)

  4. avatar Sarah says:

I look for a good mix of healthy fats, protein, and fibre… all without too much sugar!

  5. avatar Raechel says:

I like a bar that enjoys long walks on the beach…a bar that will really listen to me when I talk about my day….a bar that loves my cat….Oh wait, I think I’m answering the wrong question. But really, I spend pretty much every day of my life with an energy bar, so I think my criteria for a bar is even more strict than my criteria for a date! As a gluten-free vegan who finally gave up sugar a few years ago, I’m just a tad bit picky. Obviously, my ideal energy bar needs to be gluten-free and vegan, and any sweetener should be natural and unrefined (and limited). More than 5g of protein is preferable (so this 16g thing is blowing my mind; in a good way). And I like it when the calories aren’t comparable to a small meal (energy bars are snacks, not meal replacements!).

I’ve read about the Simply Bar on a lot of my favorite healthy living bloggers’ sites, but have never found any at my local Whole Foods or co-ops. So….

“SWF seeks TSB (The Simply Bar). After years of destructive relationships with complicated, fake, bars, I’m finally ready to settle down in a healthy relationship with something that won’t give me any crap.”

  6. avatar Jen Stewart says:

Protein and fiber! It’s gotta have both or it’s just not going to cut it. I always forget and leave flavor out, but optimally an energy bar should be yummy too or I just won’t bother eating it!

  7. avatar Sara Jane Kurpeski says:

How natural and clean the ingredients are. The cleaner and more natural the ingredients, the more energy!! These are perfect. Have not tried them because I have not seen them at any of my local stores.

  8. avatar Alli says:

I look for chocolate! Life without chocolate is like a vegan without veggies.

  9. avatar Christina Alexander says:

I want my energy bar to taste like REAL food and not just a jumble of sugary flavors! The least amount of ingredients the better. This bar needs to be kind to my tummy too, because I will be eating it at all times of the day and I don’t like to feel as if I just ate a brick : )

  10. avatar Jordan D says:

I look for low to no added sugars, some protein, and some fat to keep me satisfied. It’s ideal if it has all-natural ingredients!

  11. The most important thing to me is that it is vegan, and that when I read the label I can tell it is vegan right away. Everything just tastes better when it is cruelty free. It is like when you are in love, when your partner is nice, the love is sweeter. When your bar is cruelty free, it is just sweeter.
I also want something that tastes good (duh!), and that makes me feel full for a while.
I eat bars because I need a snack or a meal replacement, and it has to hold me over. Basically, it has to be nice (cruelty free), be something good enough for a six year old to eat, and make me full. That seems really easy, I mean, I’m not demanding or needy or anything.

  12. avatar Renata says:

PROTEIN is essential for me in an energy bar as it keeps me full and sustained longer. FIBER is also important and the fewer the sugar grams the better! INGREDIENTS that I can UNDERSTAND – is essential as that means that it’s real FOOD! It’s not made out of processed chemicals, preservatives, artificial sweeteners, flavors, colors. Should be made out of whole natural PROTEIN sources, FRUITS & VEGGIES again I emphasize REAL FOOD! :-)
Thanks so much for the Simply Bar Giveaway! :-)

  13. avatar Alicia M says:

I look for real ingredients (that I don’t have to Google to figure out what they are), vegan, tasty, and not overloaded with sugar. The packaging on these is eye-catching…deep, dark chocolate, plump, juicy raspberries; it makes me want to tear off the wrapper and devour!

  14. avatar Jason says:

I want an energy bar that tastes good, is easier to chew than a brick, with a decent amount of protein, and good quality ingredients.

  15. avatar Rebecca says:

I look for unrefined/unprocessed ingredients, HIGH in protein, flavorful and vegan!
