About Simply Bar: The Simply Bar is a small Canadian company that was founded in 2002. The founder, Cathy Richards, set out to create a bar that was both filling and easy to digest; high in protein and low in fat; low glycemic with a handful of natural ingredients. The result?

Each bar has 16 grams of protein, 2-4 grams of fat, under 3 grams of sugar, at least 4 grams of fiber, and 160 calories or less. They are also considered a good source of iron. The Simply Bar is a natural protein bar with more fiber than sugar!

The bars are sweetened with organic brown rice syrup, rate low on the glycemic index, and contain no refined sugars. Each flavor contains 10 ingredients or less – and they are all things you can pronounce! All bars are certified vegan, gluten-free, and kosher.

The One Green Planet Verdict: In terms of ingredients and nutrition it’s hard to beat these bars. A natural protein bar with more fiber than sugar? Pretty amazing! And packing 16 grams of protein into a 150 calorie bar is also quite a feat. But the real question…how do they taste?

Well, we loved them! Overall, the texture is pleasantly crunchy, like a less sticky version of a crispy rice bar. The Cinnamon Pecan and Lemon Coconut flavors were definitely our favorites. But all the flavors were true to their names, and they all tasted very natural.

With a clean list of ingredients, a significant dose of protein, and low sugar content, these bars were in fact quite satisfying as well as easy to digest. They proved to be a great option before or after a workout, as an on-the-go snack, or with some fruit or a smoothie for breakfast. Highly recommended!

Light and full of protein

May 24, 2012 by Laurie

I really like these, especially because they are light enough to not weigh you down before a workout, loaded with protein, and taste great, too! They do soften considerably in the heat, which makes them not as tasty texture-wise, but the flavor is still there.

Workout Replenishing Bar

May 19, 2012 by Ray

Simply Bar = Simply Protein! This bar is fabulous for delivering lots of protein to build muscles and sustain my energy! I've never heard of these bars but definitely will be getting some more as they are a great snack treat after my workout routine and don't ruin my diet!

Quite Simply, Lovely

May 16, 2012 by Kaleigh Wyrick

The simply bar is a lovely addition to the options available for vegan AND gluten free bar snacks. The crispy texture provides a nice chewy experience, and the sweetness is so light that it doesn't have that sickly-sweet that other bars have. The level of sweet combined with the flavors of each bar combine quite nicely to give the sensation of infusing your entire mouth with its essence.

Cinnamon was my favorite, just because I am a die-hard lover of cinnamon, but the others were tasty as well, and satisfying, both in the eating experience and in the satiety that followed. I liked how you bite into the puffy yet thick bar, and as you chew the crispy texture melts on your tongue. It isn't the texture you go for if you are looking for the chewy "raw" texture of fruit and nut bars, so just keep that in mind.

The only reason I don't give them 5/5 stars is because the ingredients include "soy protein isolate" and "natural flavors," which, don't sound completely "all natural" to someone looking for whole, unprocessed foods, but for what the product is -- a simple, filling, and tasty vegan snack that includes organic ingredients -- it is an excellent choice.

Protein Punch

Love all the protein and nutrition the Simply Bar packs in! A perfect punch of energy with a crispy crunch! Love all the flavors too as they provide a nice variety for whatever you fell like! Thank you so much for introducing me to "The Simply Bar!"

I Like to get the most bang for my calorie buck! It’s got to be full of vitamins & nutrients, boost my energy, and flavorful til the last bite!

  2. avatar Lisa Marie Anctil says:

I look for something that will give me long lasting energy (and not just a blood sugar spike), obviously! Also something that is certified gluten free (since I am a Celiac), plus it must taste delicious and not like cardboard! So delicious in fact that you would never second guess grabbing it off the floor if, god forbid, you accidentally dropped some :0 !!!!

  3. avatar Kara Hendrick says:

I look for something that is tasty, and has ingredients I can pronounce! As a teacher and runner I am always on the go, so I love bars that are filling and made with whole foods… but that taste like a treat!

  4. avatar Vanna says:

I look for a bar that won’t throw my tmj into whack (ie: too hard to chew properly). It must be tasty and not filled with “un-natural” additives. Filling is a give…must not be like potato chips where I could eat a whole bag and still be hungry. Bonus points are given if the packaging is environmentally friendly.

Protein is the magic. Natural ingredients, low sugar, low glycemic index, may beat the Odwalla Bars! I’m in for a six-pack!

  5. avatar Traci says:

First and most important is ingredients! Needs to be short and intelligible and of course vegan and gluten free or my belly will kill me! Then I go for the yum factor. Anything with chocolate is always a plus :)

  6. avatar Prinzessin says:

What I look for in an energy bar is high protein and low sugar, and an all-natural ingredient list. No chemical sweeteners, no ‘chocolatey’ coatings, just a healthy snack made of real food!
I have tried all of the Simply Bars, and my favourite is the lemon coconut… paired with a cup of earl grey tea, it keeps me going all morning :) or the caramel peanut with black coffee… yumm!
I am vegetarian, not vegan, but I appreciate that the Simply Bar is vegan. I can feel better about myself and the planet knowing that what I am eating is plant-based.
I also like that the Simply Bars are not too high in calories. I’m not an athlete, I don’t need to fuel for 10k runs, so I don’t need to be eating a 300 calorie bar! I’m quite petite so 150-160 calories for a snack is perfect for me. (hey if you need more you can always have two bars, right? ;) )

  7. avatar Tracie says:

I look for bars with calories from quality proteins, essential fats, and whole-food carbohydrates only. Artificial ingredients, refined carbohydrates, and genetically modified ingredients are all deal breakers.

  8. avatar Lindsay R says:

The most important things I look for in a great energy bar is that it is all natural, only made from a short list of ingredients, high in protein and low in sugar. And ‘great tasting’ always helps! I also find it important to feel satisfied (…and energized) after eating an great energy bar :)

  9. avatar Karen Blair says:

I look for taste, low sugar, and protein.

  10. avatar Murie says:

What I look for in an energy bar is, well, energy! Sweet, delicious energy. And in this case, I want my energy bar to taste like a guilty pleasure. The Simply Bar is delicious and nutritious, and also reminds me of my guiltiest pleasure of all: a rice krispie square. I could eat 20 of them a day without even blinking, but I don’t because 1. I don’t understand half of the ingredients on the package, and 2. the ones I can read pretty much translate to “refined white sugar” or things that scare me (i.e. BHT, milk “ingredients”). With a most vegetarian diet, I am constantly looking for a delicious high protein, meat alternative so this is a no brainer for me. It literally has half of the ingredients as some other bars and is about 5x as light, which feels great in my body, and in my purse. Simply put, Simply Bar is simply awesome.

  11. avatar Sandra says:

I look for satisfaction and nutritional value with the fewest number of calories in a good energy bar.
By satisfaction I look for great taste and a feeling of satiety after only one bar, so I can stop thinking about satisfying my food cravings and get on with my busy day with a clear mind.
By nutritional value, I look for energy bars with high protein, moderate carbs, and healthy fats, with low proportionate caloric value.

  12. avatar Sarah says:

I look for a decent amount of protein, and a minimal amount of sugar. In an ideal world, something that is under 200 calories is preferable, as I usually don’t want to replace a meal, but just need a little boost to keep me going throughout the day. A delicious taste is also preferable ;)
My stand-bys are usually Larabars and LUNAs, I love to toss them in my purse just in case! I’d love to try these out!

  13. avatar Sue says:

Since I carry energy bars mostly to give my 4 vegan kids a quick burst of calories when we are out, I look for something that tastes good and contains ingredients that I can actually identify rather than science lab ingredients.

  14. avatar Eric says:

In an energy bar, I am always looking first to the ingredient list. I want to know the nutritional value of it and compare it to others. Secondly, I am expecting some crunchiness because I stay away from mushy things.

  15. avatar Doris says:

Personally, I love a good chewy taste in an energy bar. I have lots of them over the years, and I felt like just because it was an energy bar did not mean that they had to feel like a diet bar or taste so “healthy” if I can say that. There is a definite taste I noticed that was not the same as regular bars, and it deterred me from buying any. I don’t want to feel like I am on a diet, I just want to enjoy an energy bar knowing it is good for me.
