Product Review: Rise Energy+ Bar

Product Name: Rise Bar

Product Flavors (Energy+ Line): Blueberry Coconut, Apricot Goji, Coconut Acai, Cherry Almond, Raspberry Pomegranate

Website: http://www.risebar.com

About Rise Bar: The line of bars formerly known as Prana/Boomi recently underwent a rebrand! The revamped Rise Bars are made from antioxidant-rich fruits and nutrient-dense nuts to create a wholesome, convenient snack option.

Although Rise Bar makes three product lines, we reviewed only the vegan, Energy+ flavors. The Energy+ line is designed to provide a unique combination of quick and sustained energy. Each of the five flavors has a short list of ingredients, including different combinations of dried fruit, nuts and brown rice/tapioca syrup. This line of bars is also:

  • Vegan
  • Gluten-free
  • 100% organic
  • Non-GMO
  • Peanut, soy and dairy-free
  • Preservative-free
  • Kosher

The One Green Planet Verdict: Although the five bars in this line have a relatively similar list of ingredients, they actually vary quite a bit in taste and texture! Of the bars, our three favorites were:

  1. Blueberry Coconut – This bar has a moist, chewy texture and an amazing (and sweet) coconut flavor. Definitely the best of the bunch!
  2. Apricot Goji – This bar also has a moist, chewy texture and a pleasant, mild cashew flavor. The cashews give it a nice crunch.
  3. Coconut Acai – This bar has a very mild flavor (without a strong coconut presence) and a nice crunch from the almonds and amaranth.

Simply Superdelicious!

May 24, 2012 by nik

I had the supergood fortune to win a giveaway for The Simply Bar. Here’s my very humble review, as a health-conscious, bar-lovin’ vegan, in order of preference...
Cinnamon & Pecan: The best! Super yumful nutty cinnamon flavor, yet not too strong and not overly sweet.
Caramel & Peanut: Tastes like butterscotch Chinese noodle cookies that I remember making in college…so very good!
Cocoa & Raspberry: Pleasant and truly fruity chocolate raspberry-ness.
Lemon & Coconut: Tastes like lemon drops!
Peanut Butter & Chocolate: Smooth rich chocolaty taste with a hint of peanut butter.
Cocoa & Coffee: Strong coffee taste at first, then chocolate flavor slowly mingles into it. A good bar for espresso lovers.
Thank you One Green Planet and The Simply Bar! So grateful for the giveaway and a new go-to protein bar. Cheers!

Loved these bars! Have tried all of them over the last few weeks. They were delicious and had great texture. I appreciated the natural ingredients and the combinations of fruits used in each bar. Particularly enjoyed the Raspberry Pomegranate & the Blueberry Coconut.

Delicious, and not too sweet!

Apr 14, 2012 by Alicia M

I was so happy to try these (and even shared with my husband, but truth be told, they're almost too good to share)! I have to agree that Blueberry Coconut is the best, but they're all really good. I wouldn't say they're filling enough for a meal replacement on the go (like, say, a Clif Bar), but the flavor is outstanding and tastes like (can you imagine?) real fruit, not overly sweet like many energy bars. I'm not concerned with the fat content, as it's coming from "good fat" sources. There are very few ingredients in each bar, which is a huge bonus (almost like what I might make at home).

I travel a lot, and I will definitely be buying these to throw in my backpack to keep me going while driving endless hours through really boring parts of the country. They may be a bit pricier than some of the competitors, but they're quality and healthy (and, again, delicious), so I believe worth the extra money.

Thank you!

We tried the 5 pack sampler and the whole family loved them. This was a big deal considering how picky my 14 year old son was. He loved the apricot goji and raspberry pomegranate. My favorites were the coconut bars – blueberry coconut and coconut acai. My husband preferred the cherry almond. So, there was something for everyone. I liked the chewy texture and I also liked how the bars were a good size and flavor combination – just enough for a good sized snack. My only worry is how well they would hold up in my bag for a day. I like to keep a bar or two on hand in my backpack for a healthy snack when I travel or run late. Even at room temperature, the bars weren’t very firm – I had to tear off pieces to eat. I felt they might fall apart in warmer temps. I’d probably freeze them before taking them out with me.

I really like the short, healthy ingredient list and would definitely add these to my travel list. I also appreciate that they taste good without being “too good” meaning that the family would use them as intended on the go rather than eat them all up like candy bars! :-) That happens with some of the sweeter bars out there!

I have two five-month-old puppies who are already 40 lbs (rescued lab/hound/pit mixes). If there’s any question why I need a bit of extra energy, try this insanity some time! ;)
