The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently released a statement in support of Meatless Mondays, suggesting participation in the campaign as a simple way for agency employees to reduce environmental impacts and improve their health. Unsurprisingly, the meat industry took issue with the statement, and the USDA quickly rescinded their statement.
The whole debacle has already received plenty of press, but now Steven Colbert has piled on with a bit of humor. In the following Colbert Show clip, Colbert balances quips like: “If I have Meatless Mondays, how am I supposed to have Trichinosis Tuesdays?” with “What’s that carrot?…They took your babies and they drowned them in ranch dressing? You monsters!”
