The Wall Street Journal has a detailed profile of undefeated boxer Timothy Bradley Jr, who on June 9 is scheduled to have the fight of his life against world-renowned champion Manny Pacquiao.
Bradley, 28, credits his vegan diet for giving him a pronounced advantage in the ring.
“The reason I love it so much is that I feel connected to the world,” Bradley tells the Wall Street Journal. “My thoughts are clearer, crisp. I am sharp. Everything is working perfectly—I feel clean. It’s a weird feeling, man. It’s just a weird feeling.”
Bradley first experimented with a vegan diet in 2008, when an adviser suggested it would give him more energy and endurance.
Since then, Bradley—nicknamed “Desert Storm”—has stuck by the vegan diet as he became junior welterweight champion and built an unblemished record of 28-0.
A few years ago, we used to hear about athletes who just happened to be vegan, but lately, it seems like top tier athletes are opting for a vegan diet specifically because of its benefits. Let’s hope Bradley decides to stick with it even when he’s not training for a fight.
So much for all those myths about needing animal protein for muscle strength!
