We’ve all had those unfortunate mornings where we hit “snooze” on our alarm one too many times and end up moving at a speed faster than we ever have to get to work on time. Having grown up hearing about how breakfast is the most important meal of the day, we also understand having breakfast can make or break a busy day. Thankfully, there are plenty of chains out there that offer several options for breakfast-on-the-go, unless, that is, you are eating more plant-based foods. You might be lucky enough to live in a city that has vegan restaurants that offer tofu scramble wraps but for most of us, options are limited to a piece of fruit or oatmeal made with water. Well, soon, you might be able to get your hands on a delicious plant-based breakfast at none other than Starbucks!
The coffee giant, which also offers standard options like fruit and oatmeal, has just stepped up its plant-based breakfast game with the introduction of overnight grains. The parfait-like breakfast is a blend of steel-cut oats, quinoa, and chia seeds that has been soaked overnight in coconut milk, then topped with coconut flakes and sliced almonds. Each serving contains six grams of protein. According to Well and Good, the coffee chain got the idea to introduce a protein-rich breakfast item to their menu based on the success of their protein bistro box, their best-selling lunch item. Either way, it’s good news for those seeking a hearty plant-based breakfast. Previously, Starbucks has only made moves to add more plant-based milk options to their espresso drink menu, such as almond, soy, and coconut milk.
As of right now, the new breakfast item will be rolling out into about 600 New York Starbucks locations, and if it is a success, it will be added to menus nationwide. Given the growing popularity of plant-based foods in recent years, we’re sure that the launch will be a success!
