'Spare a Turkey,' Says Sign Near Butterball Home

Animal rights group Mercy For Animals is urging travelers on U.S. 70 to keep turkey off their Thanksgiving menus with a billboard in Garner, home to turkey giant Butterball.

The group put up the same sign in Chicago and Detroit last Thanksgiving season, but it chose Garner this year because the town is home to the largest turkey producer in the country.

The billboard features an emboldened turkey who declares, “I Beg Your Pardon – Spare a Turkey.”
