Sloths, the stars of many cute viral videos, are among the countless species that are, sadly, in danger of extinction. And human threats, mainly habitat loss and poaching, are largely to blame.

Fortunately, The Costa Rica Animal Rescue Center is dedicated to saving endangered wildlife, rehabilitating them and sending them back into the wild once they are healthy.

The center is currently caring for a number of sloths, many of whom are orphans. The team of caretakers and volunteers do their best to give the animals everything they need to grow healthy and happy. And what is more essential to this than lots and lots of great food?

The rescue provides the sloths with many delicious treats – fresh fruit, vegetables, leaves, flowers.

They are also given unusual foods as enrichment items and use a special puzzle feeder, which not only gives the sloths all the nutrition they require but also keeps them active and supports their cognitive development!

Just look at this little fellow – it seems like a good meal is the key to a sloth’s happiness!

While it is unfortunate that circumstances led these sloths to a rescue center, it certainly looks like they are in good hands! We can only hope that these hungry little ones will be able to safely return to the wild soon.
