The sad reality is that Pit Bulls have a euthanasia rate of 93 percent in shelters, due to unfair stereotypes against them. Although they are just as capable of being great companions as any other dog, many think they are innately aggressive because they are commonly abused as fighting dogs. Pit Bulls often get a bad rep but this story highlights one of the many reasons why more people should give Pit Bulls a chance.
Kylo Ren was brought to the West Memphis Animal Shelter home at just ten months old. Thanks to ALIVE Rescue, a foster based program, they were able to pull Kylo Ren from the high-kill shelter.
Kylo went into a foster home for a while and when his foster parents needed respite, Meghan Sweers happened to see the pup’s photo on Facebook. She felt an immediate connection with Kylo.
To make sure he would get along with Meghan’s other dog, Nellie, a corgi, they did a trial night. Kylo seemed to instantly know he was home and made friends with Nellie.
Kylo jumps up on Meghan’s lap every day when she gets home as a way to say thanks for rescuing him. So sweet!
The two really are a match made in heaven!
Family members were at first concerned because Kylo is a Pit Bull mix and unfortunately, there are many misconceptions surrounding Pit Bulls. But they have since changed their minds and know that Kylo is friendly and as sweet as can be!
Thank you for giving Kylo a second chance! Here’s to many more happy memories.
If more people would just give Pit Bulls a chance, they would see that these can be very loving companions, and in some communities, they have even become heroes, saving people and their guardians from harm, or in this sweet story, a little boy. Some even protect citizens by using their talents by working on a police force or even as mayors!
To keep up with Kylo Ren’s adorable adventures, you can follow him on Instagram. If you’re feeling inspired, you can make a difference in the lives of homeless animals simply by volunteering at your local animal shelter. And please, always adopt and never shop!
