Watching Budi the baby orangutan on his road to recovery has been a pleasure, to say the least. After coming into International Animal Rescue’s Orangutan Care Center completely unable to move without being in extreme pain, Budi is making great strides … literally.
Thanks to the work of his devoted caretakers, Budi is finally taking his first steps! After being fed only condensed milk for the first 10 months of his life, Budi’s limbs were completely swollen from malnutrition. Now that he is being fed the proper diet he needs, the swelling has subsided and his caretakers are working to help him build muscle.
Getting Budi up and moving is very important to help him regain his strength. After all, wild orangutans spend most of their days climbing trees, so having strong arms and legs is key! Seeing Budi travel all the way across a room sure gives us hope that this little orangutan will be swinging in trees in no time at all!
Go Budi, go!
