Almond milk may be an almost billion dollar industry, but almonds aren’t the only player in the dairy-free milk game. Pea protein milk has taken off, offering eight times the protein of almond milk50 percent more calcium than dairy milk, and a third of the saturated fat. Ripple Foods has a line of pea protein milk, available in Target and now there is another new pea milk in the game!

Bolthouse Farms, the largest producer of baby carrots in North America has developed Bolthouse Farms® Plant Protein Milk. Their beverage contains 10 grams of pea protein per 8-ounce serving, compared to almond milk’s one gram of protein.

The pea milk comes in four flavors: Unsweetened, Original, Vanilla, and Chocolate. We’ll take one of each, please!

Bolthouse Farms first harvests the yellow peas and mills them into flour. The flour is processed, separating the pea protein from the fiber and starch. Then the pea protein is further purified and blended together with water and other ingredients, such as sunflower oil, sea salt, as well as vitamins like B12.

Bolthouse Farms’ eagerness to get in on the plant-based milk game is no surprise. The plant-based and dairy-free alternative sectors have been seeing a ripple-effect over the last few years that doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. In fact, plant-based milk is set to reach $16.3 billion in 2018. Dairy-free yogurts are also gaining in popularity as many consumers are looking for the probiotic health benefits of yogurt cultures without the dairy component. This segment alone is estimated to reach $2.9 billion by this year.

Bolthouse Farms Plant Protein Milk has already started shipping and will be available at Kroger, Safeway East, and Shaw’s as well as many other retailers. You can find the pea milk in the refrigerated aisle, right next to the dairy milk.

We can’t wait to try!
