Exciting news for Stranger Things fans! Sadie Sink, who plays the hit show’s newest member, Maxine “Max” Mayfield, is VEGAN! In an interview with Just Jared, Sadie shared that she is not only a “passionate vegan,” but she also loves documentaries, with her favorite being award-winning film Blackfish.
Sadie noted in the interview that she was vegetarian for “about a year” but became vegan after meeting long-time vegan Woody Harrelson on the set of the film The Glass Castle. So awesome!
Reportedly while filming season two of Stranger Things in Atlanta, Sadie had a craving for her childhood favorite, chicken and waffles, but thankfully was able to find a vegan version at Cafe Sunflower, a nationally recognized and award-winning vegetarian and vegan restaurant. (Sadie, here are some other spots where you can find vegan chicken and waffles around the U.S. if you’re ever in a pinch again!)
We imagine fighting the evils of the Upside Down takes a lot of stamina and thankfully for Sadie, a whole foods, vegan diet has repeatedly been linked to better heart health, lowered risk of diabetes and cancer, and more. Leafy greens, all vegetables, 100 percent whole grains, raw nuts and seeds, beans and legumes, and fruit of all kinds turn out to be brilliant weapons against major disease.
Not only that, but there are many other reasons to want to eschew meat and dairy. One major concern is animal welfare, in addition to the use of hormones and antibiotics that inevitably end up in meat and dairy. The environmental toll of industrialized animal agriculture also causes major concern. The destructive animal agriculture industry currently occupies over half of the world’s arable land resources, uses the majority of our freshwater stores, and drives more greenhouse gas emissions than the entire transportation sector combined. Plus, industrialized animal agriculture also causes rampant air and water pollution, land degradation, deforestation and is pushing countless species to the brink of extinction.
Knowing how dire of a situation the planet is in because of our meat habit, it’s great to see celebrities (especially young celebrities!) use their platform to speak up for animals, their health, and the environment!
