GMO seems to be the buzzword of the year as the genetically modified organisms debate continues to rage on across the country. It’s a fight where states like Washington turn into a fierce battleground with a concerned public on one side and multi-million dollar corporations on the other.
Well-meaning businesses and organizations like Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps, Amy’s Kitchen and the Organic Consumer Fund have got the public’s back and they are all working together to try and get Washington voters to check “yes” on I-522 this November, a ballot initiative that if passed would require genetically engineered (GE) foods to be labeled.
Naturally, big businesses are trying their best to make sure this doesn’t happen by contributing millions of dollars to the “No on 522” campaign.
To raise awareness about GMOs and what’s happening in Washington, singer, comedian and environmental educator, Dana Lyons decided to put together a parody video of The Village People’s “YMCA” called “Label GMO Disco.”
The video’s a bit silly, but does present need-to-know facts about GMOs in a thoroughly amusing way. Perhaps it’s just the thing that’s needed to get the public’s attention and a majority “yes” vote on November’s ballot. Let’s hope so.
Watch “Label GMO Disco” below right now, then share it with your friends.
