Buzz Petition

The extent of cruelty some people inflict on innocent animals is always incredibly disturbing and upsetting, and what makes matters even worse is when law enforcement and the judicial system fail to protect animals and appropriately prosecute those found guilty of animal abuse and neglect.

A petition on Care2 describes a heartbreaking case of animal abuse and neglect that took place in Millington, Michigan. A severely neglected and emaciated Appaloosa horse was found abandoned, lying helplessly in a field earlier this September. His hooves had grown so long he was unable to stand and therefore was unable to eat or drink. Not only was he starving, with his bones jutting out from under his skin, but he had a large wound on his side infested with flies, bees, and grasshoppers.

Authorities were contacted, and although the Sheriff department arrived at the scene, they said they were not familiar enough with horses to do anything about it and that Animal Control would have to address the issue. The horse was lying helpless for days before authorities and a vet decided to euthanize the innocent animal.

Complaints had been made regarding the treatment and condition of this horse since May 2017, yet nothing was done to protect him. The neglect and abuse could have been halted and his innocent life saved, but authorities apparently did not view animal rights as a priority.

The petition is demanding justice for this horse and asking for a thorough investigation in this case in order to appropriately prosecute those responsible for this egregious act of animal abuse and neglect. If you would like to see justice for this defenseless animal, please take a moment to sign this petition.

Sadly, cases of animal abuse and neglect are more common than most people realize. Although it can be discouraging knowing that animal abusers all too often get away with their violent crimes, even when sufficient evidence is present, we still must always speak up for those who do not have a voice. If you witness an animal being abused or neglected, please do not hesitate to contact authorities to investigate. For more information on what you should do if you suspect an animal is being abused or neglected, please read this.

And please share this with your network to increase awareness regarding animal abuse and garner more support for this poor horse who would likely still be alive today if appropriate actions were taken to protect him.

I am not seeing pictures of the abuse. I have seen people accused of abuse when there really was none. Where is the evidence?

I say the fault lies with the authorities that did NOTHING. Geez, any sort of suffering, whether it be human or animal needs to be reported and acted upon. Shame, shame, shame on the authorities!

If there had "been complaints made " for that long, why didn\'t some of the whiners take matters into their own hands to help this horse? Step 1: if the owner is known, hang him. Step 2: remove horse yourselves, and take him to the nearest known horse doctor.
