BlueVoice.org also reports that around 18,000 Dall’s proposies are killed for meat in Japan’s northern waters and another 2,000 are slaughtered in the Taiji cove for meat and also taken for captivity in aquariums and “swim with dolphins” programs.
As many know, thanks in part to the documentary, “The Cove,” this slaughter is undoubtedly inhumane, with animals put through extreme stress and familial separation and then, brutal slaughter.
Now, Japan has a new group enraged by its continued slaughter.
The “hactivist” (hacker-activist) organization called “Anonymous” has broken into a number of Japanese government websites including the prime minister’s office, Wakayama Perfecture, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, reports Tokyo Times.
The group sent this online message to the Japanese government: “STOP these slaughters IMMEDIATELY, or get ready to face the extent of our wrath.”
“Anonymous” has declared they will hack another 22 Japanese websites if the government does not stop the dolphin slaughter.
The group has reportedly hacked government agencies in the U.S., Israel, Tunisia, and Uganda as well as child pornography sites and even corporations like PayPal, MasterCard, Visa and Sony.
While they’re acts might be deemed criminal, they have surprising support, and are certainly forcing the Japanese government to really look at their actions and what the public truly wants.
Whether or not the group’s actions are appropriate is for you to decide, but either way, Japan’s dolphin hunt is beyond acceptable – and it’s time the government faced that fact.
