Annie Leonard created her first video, The Story of Stuff, to shed light on how we make, use, and throw away consumer goods. Much to her surprise, the video went viral, and ultimately led to the creation of The Story of Stuff Project. The project now encompasses a website, book, blog, podcast, and a growing collection of informative and enlightening videos.
In her newest video, The Story of Change, Leonard argues that conscious consumerism is a great place to start, but a terrible place to stop. She explains: ”the solutions we really need are not for sale at the supermarket.”
While buying “green” products is an important first step, she believes what’s really needed is a large-scale shift in our economic and political priorities. Leonard notes: “…by changing what our economy prioritizes, we can change that current so that the right thing becomes the easiest thing to do.”
