According to a recent study, 93% of Americans support mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods. Yet for 20 years, the government has denied us that right. To tackle this problem, a coalition of 300 companies, organizations and doctors have launched a new initiative called Just Label It, to advocate for mandatory labeling. The group has filed a legal petition with the Food and Drug Administration calling them to label food containing genetically modified ingredients.

However, the FDA is not likely to be easily swayed. While not commenting on the petition, Tamara Ward, an FDA spokeswoman, says the agency “has not found that foods from genetically engineered organisms, as a class, present different or greater safety concerns than their conventional counterparts.”

Just Label It is encouraging people to flood the FDA with comments so they know that the public wants labeling. Click here to take action!
