Social media is a powerful tool that is saving lives. When shelter volunteers post pictures and stories about animals in need of help, they have the potential of reaching millions of concerned people, all over the country. By networking these images, private citizens can work together to find homes, fosters or rescues, and even raise money for necessary treatments to save these animal’s lives.

Sophie’s story is a prime example of this. She was found with a broken pelvis on the side of the road after being hit by a car in Downey, California. She was brought her to animal control but there was a chance she would have to be put down due to her injury. Luckily. someone put her picture on social media and then something amazing happened!

A woman in Tennessee saw Sophie’s photo and contacted Abandoned Terrier Rescue Association. She pulled Sophie from the shelter and rushed her to Abandoned Terrier Rescue in for an emergency surgery that no doubt saved her life.

With her leg mended, Sophie was finally able to walk again, and soon, she  had found her forever home! This happy ending is a great example of the power of social media. By taking the time to share the stories of unwanted animals, we all have the power to save lives!
