A dog is a man’s best friend, they say. We were also delighted when we learned about dogs feeling empathy. But, for a four-year-old black Labrador named Bear, his status just got promoted to hero after saving 14-month-old Stanley from the pool.
Patricia Drauch, 30, of Marcellus, Massachusetts, says that she thought her son Stanley was still right behind her as she was getting a shovel from the garage, yet moments later, she found him unconscious in the swimming pool – on Bear’s back.
“He didn’t bark. He didn’t move. It was like he was afraid to move at all until I got Stanley up out of the pool, and that’s when he came up out of the pool with me,” WSBT quotes Drauch saying. Stanley’s brother, Kyle Drauch, elaborates, “Bear was trying to keep Stanley up so he wouldn’t die.”
A news release issued by Cass County Sheriff, found on WSBT, also reports that Drauch attempted to call 911 but was unable to get cellphone reception. Having no options, she starting driving the Marcellus Fire Department, during which she was finally able to contact Cass County Central Dispatch. And while on the phone with them, Stanley regained consciousness. He was still sent to Three Rivers Hospital to be examined and treated.
