The flying fox is a variety of bat. When we think of bats, the word “cute” doesn’t typically come to mind. But in the case of Ruby, I dare you to watch this video and not exclaim, “how cute.” This precious little animal was rescued after her mother was killed in a car strike.

Bats are known for their poor eyesight. As more and more people drop their trash along the highway, the risk of a bat swooping down to pick up that other half of your sandwich and accidentally getting hit increases drastically.

While Ruby has found herself in good hands, this is not always the case for other orphaned bats. Ruby is just like any other baby. She loves to be cuddled and needs constant care and affection to survive. Once Ruby is big enough, she will join a group of other flying foxes and hopefully one day flourish with her new family.
