Any wild animal living out a miserable existence behind zoo enclosures deserves a voice, but one, in particular, needs your help right NOW. Her name is Lyka, and she has been labeled by the Maazin Zoo staff as a “breeding mistake” — you see, Lyka was born with an eye condition that has left her blind. She is also lonely, depressed, and neglected. According to a visitor of the zoo who spoke with the Mirror, “I felt so sorry for her … She looks so neglected and depressed.” This is why the Care2 Petition team is calling on animal lovers to speak up for this poor girl and the other animals suffering at this zoo.
The government-funded zoo reports that Lyka receives “adequate” food and care, but clearly, that is not the case. Not only is the enclosure in awful condition, but zoo staff confirms that they don’t have enough money to improve the enclosures or properly care for the animals. Sign the petition so that Lyka and all these innocent animals can be transferred to a sanctuary where they can live in as natural of an environment as possible. We can’t continue to allow these sentient beings to waste away in zoos such as this one! Zoo management or the government don’t seem concerned about their well-being so it’s up to animal lovers to be their voice.
As a government-funded facility, there is no reason for these animals to be living in such disgraceful conditions. It is yet another case showing that zoos primarily exist to make money and that the care of the animals typically comes second to lining their pockets. Life in captivity can never compare to that in the wild, and only when people realize the truth about zoos and stop spending their money on these prisons will things change for innocent animals like Lyka.
Wild animals deserve to live free from exploitation. There are far more rewarding ways to experience the beauty and wonder of wild animals — click here to find out how.
