How fortunate we all are to be able to witness such incredible moments, such as this, in the animal kingdom. This video of a baby elephant struggling to take its first steps is so precious! The care the mother takes in assisting her little one is also just as sweet. It really makes you wonder how anyone could hurt such majestic animals. From exploitation, captivity, and trophy hunting, these elephants suffer immensely at the hands of humans.

Most people are aware of the ivory trade, but the exploitation of elephants for human entertainment is also in direct correlation with poaching. Most elephants used in the tourism industries are taken away from their mothers at a very young age and endure agonizing torture to be broken and trained. The mothers are brutally killed while trying to protect their young. The tourism and trekking industries work hard at hiding these cruelties and many people are not educated enough about elephants to know that the conditions many of them live in are beyond cramped and unsanitary. As very social animals, elephants crave interaction with other elephants, which they seldom get in captivity. In nature, elephants grieve the dead and form strong bonds with their young.

There are many organizations working to make the world a better place for elephants, such as Elephants in Japan, World Animal Protection, and the World Wildlife Fund. To learn about how you can help elephants click here and here.

Adorable little elephant. I was just frightened a car would arrive while the little cutie was still on the road. Human beings should take a lookt at his mother; I find her extremely good and, yes, her behaviour is pretty humane.

This is lovely, bur could we please use grammatically correct English? Children, adolescents, and young adults all watch these videos and giving them the impression that a single (baby) elephant is a "they" is not only confusing and bizarre but bad usage, too, of the kind that will later prevent them from advancing in their careers.

Vaska,,, Perhaps you should read the article again. When the author says "they", she is referring to elephants in general. It says.."Elephants crave interaction, which THEY seldom get in captivity. ( This is the only place she uses "they"). I\'m thinking it\'s not the children you should be so concerned about, but rather yourself. Go take a course in reading comprehension and get your shit together.

While I am not positive that animals do not \'love\' their young, what we do know it this: we tend to ascribe love to Mother Nature\'s great imperative that life continue. Everything wants to grow and live. Think of the weeds that break through concrete. And everything apparently wants to replicate. If nothing replicated, nothing would be here very quickly, including human beings.

Tears in viewing the love of Mother to her baby elephant. These animals are my favorite; the cruelty to them is overwhelming. It is hard to believe people are so self entered. Elephants should be cherished as they are disappearing due to the ivory trade & more.......
