Baby Elephants hold a special place in our hearts. Not only are they unfathomably adorable, but they also play an important role in our global ecosystem. Unfortunately, the world’s elephant populations are in serious danger of extinction because of human actions. Asian elephants, like the little on in this video, are primarily in danger of being captured from the wild and forced into the tourism trade. Given the intelligence and social abilities of elephants, a life performing for humans is hardly a life at all.

The good news is there are many people working to protect elephants from this cruel life. The little ellie in this video is part of the Mahouts Foundation’s Walking Elephants Home campaign that encourages communities to retire former working elephants to their native forest.

This short clip features Sunti, one of the younger herd members. Here we see a sleepy Sunti trying to figure out whether he wants to eat, sleep or play. It seems like he decides on trying to do a combination of the three by standing in place and wiggling around. What a quirky guy!
